Pike Fly Fishing AssociationThe PFFA exists to promote the care and conservation of Pike through the responsible management of fisheries, and to encourage good angling practice in relation to the sport of fly-fishing for Pike.
The practice of fly fishing for Pike is recorded in print ( Rural Sports ) as far back as 1801, where the author refers to the capture of a pike weighing 72lb from Loch Ken using a fly tied with Peacock feathers. As a matter of interest the largest Pike caught on a fly in modern times is one by Paul Harvey weighing in at 42lb 10oz back in 1998. The method of using fly tackle to catch Pike has had and still has its critics, I believe that over the past few years it has been proven that providing the angler uses the correct tackle and follows the pffa guide to pike fly fishing there should be no problem. Many of the club members are very experienced pike fly fisherman and are always willing to give advice on casting, fly tying, and handling etc.
The club endeavours to produce a magazine at least once a year but this is largely dependent on the amount of material recieved. Printing costs these days are very expensive so the club magazine PIKE ON THE FLY has been produced on compact disc. The club stand can be found at many angling shows and game fairs through out the year promoting the sport of fly fishing for pike why not come along and have chat. You can find the club in the fishing village section at the game fairs. |
